The spirit of 1984 in 2006
Washington State pupils given patriotism test
Children in Washington State are being given 'Patriotism tests' which are completely unrelated to their studies. The paper gauges whether or not the student shows fealty to the power of the state and whether the student believes in the right to overthrow a corrupt government.
As for the libertarians - I know you admire them, but I find them to be no more than Republicans who need to put on a costume pretending to be something else. Kind of like McCain - pretending to be a maverick.
I am into another book on Wellstone and the more I read, the more disgusted I get about the very dronedom Tim speaks about. Plenty-o-bitching, weeping and knashing of teeth but no movement. Too few men and women of wisdom running this leviathan called government and not enough action against the monster. I am sad about that. I know I will again be out there this coming November, freezing my baggetts off in the rain with a Willy for Senate sign in my frost bitten fingers. One small voice in the rain... I'll change this world allright.
