The War on 3rd Party Candidates.

Libertarian encounters barrier when he tries to vote in primary

Adam Weinberg is a man without a party.

State election officials decertified the Libertarian Party on Aug. 22. So Weinberg, who still is a Libertarian at heart, was expecting to run into some problems Tuesday as a voter in the primary election for the Winston-Salem City Council.

But he wasn't expecting to be turned away from the polls.

Precinct officials could not find his name on their list of eligible voters, Weinberg, 21, said yesterday.

Then, they told him he could not cast a ballot. Try again in the November general election, he said they told him.

"If I didn't have a little chutzpah, I would've been turned away," Weinberg said.

The Libertarian Party failed to receive at least 10 percent of the vote in last November's general election, so the party is no longer recognized in North Carolina, according to state law.

Anyone registered as a Libertarian must file as a Democrat, Republican or "unaffiliated" voter by Oct. 17 or his designation automatically will be changed to unaffiliated.

Comments:
I almost do - except that Libertarians vote for Republicans.

Libertarian points of view are not without merit. What is without merit are the vast majority of libertarians. They vote for politicians who are completely at odds with their beliefs.

Also most of these libertarians are ONLY libertarian when it comes to funding schools and providing services to people in need.

It seems that their politic ideals are merely a convenient excuse to argue against paying taxes without having to acknowledge the horrible consequences of their actions.

They want to put more money in their own pocket whether or not senior citizens have to eat dog food. Many are just ignorant cowards hiding behind a philosophy that lets them do what they want.

Of coarse every once in a while you meet one that is sincere.

Libertarians who vote GOP are not subscribing to a true libertarian view. The faux libertarians are more dangerous than the Republicans, because they care even less than the GOPfor community (and that's saying something in our state) - they are completely self serving.

Instant Runoff Voting.... that's want we need to stop 3rd party candidates from being spoilers and promote via third party candidates!

We need Clean Election laws, too, so that third party candidates and others who aren't in bed with the petroleum or drug industries can have a chance at actually winning.

Maine passed Clean Election laws, which is one reason there are Greens in office.
