Bradley in Laconia
I'm just back from Jeb Bradley's 101st town hall meeting in Laconia. I'm sure the wily Congresscritter hoped that he'd be ignored on a holiday weekend - but his hopes were cruelly dashed. Twenty five citizens showed up for a non-scripted affair, where poor Jebster took a beating on public transportation, the war in Iraq, CAFTA, and Social Security. Jeb's usually cool composure cracked a bit when yours truly asked about the DeMint bill, which would use the SS surplus to fund the private accounts, thereby killing Social Security. He knew nothing about the DeMint bill - and didn't seem pleased to learn about it, especially from me. Only the crusty Rep. Ralph Rosen was on Jebby's side. My favorite was the woman who expressed her concern for the "lack of ethos in the people's house" these days. Ain't that the truth!!

Ahh the crusty Ralph Rosen. During the 1992 legislative redistricting fight Ralph on the floor of the House opposed dividing up Laconia into equal districts (it was noted in debate that 5 of the 6 Republican state reps all came from the same ward)his quote was something like: "We can't divide Laconia up, that would elect those people like welfare mothers" Yup that was Laconia's Crusty the Clown.
